The coffee ceremony
Three cups. No one leaves after the first.
Green beans are roasted over coals, ground by hand and brewed in a clay jebena while incense burns. The ceremony takes its time — that is the point.
Abol
The first round — strongest and richest, poured for everyone at the table.
Tona
The second round, brewed from the same grounds. Softer, and the talk gets longer.
Baraka
The third round — the blessing. Stay for it, and you’re no longer a stranger.
